A Brief History
The business was founded in February 1986 when the previous owner identified a
gap in the temperature controlled distribution market. Having spent many years
working for a major international bacon producer, he saw an increasing need for
the urgent delivery of product samples and small orders in properly equipped
vehicles. It was by then fast becoming unacceptable to merely "bung a few
boxes in the boot of a car" so he took early retirement and Chillspeed was
born. The next 11 years were spent developing the business into one with
an increasing reputation for reliability, honesty and service of the highest quality.
Sold as a going concern in November 1997, Chillspeed is now under the ownership
and personal management of Mr Geoffrey Lazell, who is supported by a dedicated team
of highly motivated drivers. With the benefit of new technology and dynamic management, this well established firm is committed to now providing an even more efficient express delivery service, whilst still maintaining the high level of personal care which our customers have long since come to rely on. Although admittedly not one of the biggest in the refrigerated transport business, after nearly a quarter of a century Chillspeed remains justifiably proud of its hard-won reputation for still being one of the best.
UK Service
Located in the heart of East Anglia, Chillspeed already serves many of the major food producers, manufacturers and processors in the area and often has spare load capacity to and from many parts of the country.
With regularly and scrupulously maintained fully refrigerated ATP class ‘C’ vans, courteous and conscientious drivers and a 24-hour availability, Chillspeed offers a competitive and cost-effective ‘fast-track’ service. Our weight capacity is 1,200 kgs (2,640 lbs) and we can carry up to 3 standard (or 4 Euro) pallets. The larger vehicles are equipped with 240v overnight standby facilities and we can very often offer competitive ‘groupage’ rates to and from many parts of the UK mainland. Smaller vehicles, used mainly for sample deliveries have capacities of up to 600 kgs (1,320 lbs) and will carry 1 standard (or Euro) pallet. Our delivery service to Northern Ireland is offered on a ‘dedicated vehicle’ basis only. Comprehensive “Goods in Transit” insurance cover up to £10,000 on any one vehicle applies to all UK deliveries. Full details are available on request.
European Service
Chillspeed has considerable experience in most northern European countries, where we offer a ‘dedicated vehicle’ express delivery service for high-value food products and pharmaceuticals. “Goods in Transit” insurance cover up to £250,000 is provided under CMR regulations.
Value-added Service
Using an Internet-based vehicle tracking system, our customers can now benefit from real-time updates on the location of any vehicle at any time throughout the entire UK and most of Europe. This is done via the driver’s mobile phone and provides a reliable, cost-effective enhancement to our service. Automatic in-cab temperature recording is performed on an ongoing basis throughout the duration of every journey and a print-out is available if required.
